DWELL | Louise Grayson & Amber Simpson

To Dwell is to linger. To stay awhile and lose oneself in this moment. Stillness surrounds and makes itself familiar to every corner.  Lightness and dark find their way to the surface and force themselves to be looked at. Nothing is overlooked. Every aspect, every crevice, every stone is overturned and inspected. Shadow becomes line and form. Colour – a pure and luminous entity that transcends the surface.  Detail and lack thereof both demand to be the champion – a duality that plays across the pieces, this body of work and existence.

Dwell is a collaboration between contemporary Brisbane  artist Amber Simpson and Fine Art Photographer and photo journalist Louise Grayson. This collaboration came together in response to the current situation we are experiencing. Limited mobility, travel and other restrictions as well as other, more personal events have effected the artists in different ways and pulled their  focus in different directions.

The shows run from 19- 31st October 2021.

Our opening night is on Thursday, 21st October 5.30 – 7.30pm. Private viewings are also available

Numbers are limited so please RSVP.

Mark Gawne

“I was struck by the starkness and enormity of this landscape and the colour that seemed to saturate everything and I immediately thought of painting big, colourful canvases.”

– Mark Gawne

Possessing a strong tactile sense, Mark believes texture is an important part of his work and encourages people to touch his paintings.

Julie Poulsen

“With Julie’s touch, elements of the everyday take on a life of their own as unique works of art, testaments to her ongoing quest for new visual narratives and her delightfully unpredictable style.”

Julie Poulsen’s curiosity for colour and composition were informed by multiple locations in her formative years. From Papua New Guinea to the Gold Coast, from traditional Toowoomba and the United Kingdom to frontier Cooktown, Julie’s travels nurtured a tendency towards discovery and experimentation.
