Hand Wash Bowls

Chozubachi Japanese hand washbasins, found in Japanese gardens are traditionally used for washing hands and mouth to cleanse mouth and spirit. They are a functional embodiment of the zen concept wabi-sabi. Usually made of natural stone, they embrace natural imperfection. Often weathered and covered in moss and lichen, they represent accumulated time and the quiet steady passage of history. They are a starting point to a journey or ritual. As an embodiment of time they also represent the journey itself and the change that takes place in the traveller.
