My paintings are a response to the natural landscape, inspired by places I have lived for many years as an expat. I use texture and movement in my artwork and paint with emotion and sensitivity to create a feeling or a sense of place, rather than a captured image in time.

Narelle Gibbs’ work reflects the landscapes she has lived in and her deep connection to the natural world. After years of traveling the globe and drawing inspiration from diverse environments, she now finds herself immersed in the rugged beauty of the Australian landscape, where she grew up. The sunburnt earth, vast open spaces, and ever-changing light profoundly influence her current practice.

Returning to Australia in 2021 rekindled her relationship with the land. She finds inspiration in the feeling of being surrounded by and immersed in the trees and foliage, where the rustling leaves, shifting light, and rich textures of the bush evoke a profound sense of calm and connection. Each piece she creates is a response to these intimate experiences with nature—the colours, textures, and rhythms of this unique environment.

Working in both oil and acrylic, Narelle utilizes mixed drawing media and expressive brush marks to build texture and interest in her work. Through vibrant colourand texture, she explores nature’s contrasts and moods, evoking the feeling of being deeply present in these landscapes. She invites viewers to experience the quiet beauty and immersive energy that inspire her daily.
