Artist Statement
Amanda Mcgahan is a Cairns Based Visual Artist predominantly working as a clay sculptor. Amanda creates hand built sculptures of humans and animals evoking emotions though her work. Her work leans towards humour as she loves to portray the quintessential nature of human and animal characteristics. Amanda has set up and run The Kite Gallery in Cairns for the last three years, holding regular exhibitions for Cairns based artists as well as running workshops and selling work through her own gallery shop. Amanda has recently set up Barron River Studios in Stratford Cairns with her partner, here they have collaborated on recent pieces, Amanda working with figure sculpture and her partner Michael creating mixed media to create beautiful one of a kind sculptures, Amanda aspires to hold solo and group exhibitions outside of Cairns and work fulltime creating unique sculptures.
