MARK GAWNE

Mark Gawne is an artist who is fluent over a number of genres. He began his career in the 80’s as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator providing for the private and government sectors. recognised for his unique and highly colourful artworks in drawing and painting. In 1999 his artwork was honoured in the Cairns Regional Art Show when he won the ‘Peoples Choice’ Award.

Mark moved to Fine Art painting in the mid 90’s producing hundreds of abstract landscapes that sold in selected galleries across the Eastern States of Australia and bought around the world.

After attaining his degree in Fine Art (1989) Mark completed his Masters degree (2004-QUT) studying German and American Abstract Expressionism; including visiting galleries in Europe whilst painting for his Graduate  exhibition titled ’The Playground’ which was well received by the public and sold well.

Mark has been selected as a finalist and winner for a number of awards, one prize in particular catapulted his career when he won the 1999 Cairns Regional Art Exhibition (People’s Choice award) which brought about a surge in press articles and caught the eye of gallery directors around Australia. With this impetus, Mark was soon exhibiting in galleries in Cairns, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Enabling Mark to sell consistently around the world since 2000 and feature in art industry magazines, interior design magazines and TV shows.

“It’s important to have good control of your medium and I can layer and texture oil paints confidently, allowing me spontaneity in my art and creating thick textures that highlight details in the landscape.”
