My art is a journey – of self exploration and understanding.
Manifesting predominantly in the form of people, it’s about the reconciliation of emotions, experiences and growth.
Through this human ‘foundation’, my work connects with others – exploring the feelings and memories we all share and feel, and that bring us together.
The undertones are not obvious or grandiose – it’s the exploration of themes such as contemplation, reminiscence, and inquiry.
Many works are portrayed as stories, and it’s through these shared stories that I bring the emotion that underpins them – be they happy times as a child, a family or now. Regardless, my works are about being ‘human’, and people – loud, big, and mighty, or small, ‘invisible’, present and strong. Whether you are obvious and present, or ‘in the background’, I aim to capture all facets of human form and emotion – whether as an individual or shared group.
My ‘Mighty Women’ Series has been about large, bright and dominant people – often portraying quiet emotions, moments or feelings. They focus on the unique beauty of the individual, experiencing every day, relatable moments. Portraying women, I also wanted the focus to be ‘off the body’ and physical beauty, forcing the viewer to consider the intellect, emotion and wisdom of the ‘character’ instead.
My ‘Invisible People’ Series is about those who are present but understated, calm, the ‘battleship in the fog’. The people who ‘don’t sit in the front row’ and don’t need to. They are quietly confident and ‘rich’ in life experience . They are everywhere and often our ‘rocks’ in life.
As my journey with ‘people’ continues, I will evolve to release further ‘stories’ and hope, that in my reflection, you can see ‘yourself’ and some form of reconciliation/ common ground.
From a production and mediums perspective, all my works are layered and rich. At a distance they tell a story that, upon closer inspection, holds so much more to see. I experiment with surface texture and mediums to bring depth and make the immediate experience one of a ‘journey’. I also LOVE color and continue to use it to showcase and ‘underline’ mood. I don’t shy away from it and really use it to show that all life is colorful and rich and vibrant and ‘noticeable.’
I hope you enjoy my journey!
