Amber Simpson
Waterbodies
Creating art outside of time on Turrbal country, Amber Simpson’s
recent body of work invokes a dreamy stillness where sparkling
watery landscapes caress and contrast with iconically designed
living spaces outlined in timber veneer: the world within and the
world without.
Amber puts a contemporary twist on traditional marquetry, inlaying
hand cut wood veneer to create an abstract base upon which she
applies vibrant/dreamy waterscapes in oil.
Inspired by locations such as Carnarvon Gorge, Lakes Kurwongbah and
Samsonvale, even the Nile in Egypt, Amber’s work is often described
as an intersection between art, craft and design, giving her work
broad aesthetic appeal and decorative value. Her exhibition
‘Waterbodies’ weaves a transcendent narrative around stillness and
the sacred.
Amber was born in Bowral, NSW, and is a graduate of North Adelaide
School of the Arts. Her work is in private collections in Australia,
New Zealand and Singapore. After directing Chrome Street Studios for
3 years, she now works full time out of her private studio in Mount
Samson.
