Monstera Deliciosa
Acrylic and oil stick on board framed in Tasmanian Oak

Leigh Vardanega’s paintings are deeply influenced by the coastal and bush environment, as well as her nostalgic recollections of formative years spent by the sea. Her artistic style can be described as abstract, although it often incorporates realistic elements, consistently showcasing a connection to nature.
Leigh is drawn to the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi where one finds beauty in things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. She works in many layers of paint and glaze, often scratching and sanding back the surface to recreate the patina of an aged weathered surface.

Painting from photographs and memories from her tree top surrounded studio on Sydney’s Northern Beaches Leigh’s is driven by a desire to evoke joy and inspire an appreciation of the natural world.
